w/ Grouper + Jefre Cantu-LedesmaA collaborative record by two measureless musicians possibly inspired by and in response to the enigmatically beautiful work of Latvian-born and Los Angeles-based visual artist Vija Celmins. Graphite rendered ocean backdrops, night skies, and anonymous spiderwebs transfigured into standing waves in space and sound. The long haunt/mute broadcast. The minimalist’s maximalist? Liz and Jefre are steering for summer 2012. http://hammer.ucla.edu/exhibitions/detail/exhibition_id/93 |

w/ Irwin SwirnoffGlass, house approached Irwin to collaborate after loudly and devotedly speakering his KUSF radio show, Sleeves on Hearts, for years. A wildly gifted taste-maker and life-enthusiast, Irwin has the rare power to change the nature of what/how you hear simply by acting as middleman. His intro and outro-ductions — two overlooked and unclassifiable genres — are vivid and graceful treatises on time, place, love, perception, realization, change, walking, feeling, tenderness, escape, the city, and redemption. His 8mm film work is no less grounding and proud; a democracy of life (soundtracked). When USF abruptly sold community radio out from under the countless DJ’s and volunteers who made the station go, Irwin, once-Musical Director, took on leadership of the fight to stop the final sale. He's been working with lawyers, filing stops, getting the word out; and making smart moves on behalf of his commitment to local airwaves. We will ride again. |
